# What happens when your trial or subscription ends

When your trial or subscription ends, locking, timers, schedules, app blocking and the other TV controls need an active plan again. Unlocking the TV from the Guardian app is always free, so you can always unlock your TV.

## What changes

The TV controls in the Guardian app need an active plan: locking the TV, timers, schedules, App Blocking, Max volume and Uninstall Blocking. When your plan has ended, the app shows **Your subscription has expired** at the bottom of the Home screen, and tapping one of these controls opens the plans screen.

## What stays free

**Unlocking the TV is always free.** If the TV is locked, **Slide to unlock TV** in the Guardian app works with or without a subscription. Your PIN also still unlocks the TV at the TV itself.

## Renew

1. **Tap Renew subscription** on the Home screen.
2. **Pick a plan** and confirm with Apple or Google.
3. **Your TVs and rules come back.** They stay saved while your subscription is off.

**Will I be stuck with a locked TV if I stop paying?**
No. Unlocking from the Guardian app is always free, and your PIN still works on the TV.

**Do I lose my TVs and settings?**
No. Your paired TVs and rules stay saved. When you renew, you pick up where you left off.

**I renewed but the app still says it has expired.**
Tap Restore purchases on the plans screen. If you paid with a different Apple or Google account, sign in with that account on the phone first.
